China Duty Free: Surreal Island

Creative agency, Superunion, partnered with Peru-based surrealist illustrator, Paolo Torres and China Duty Free International to create the surrealist digital experience “The Surreal Island”. Displayed on large-scale digital screens in the retail space at the Grand Lisboa Palace, Macau.

I was added to the team at Superunion to work alongside other motion artists and designers to bring Paolo’s illustrated characters, quite literally, to life. Rigging, animating characters and adding flowing animation to foliage while having the full sequence seamlessly loopable.

Each leaf, flower, ornament and character across the scenes were animated to give the feeling that the forest was also alive. A large part of my role on the project was managing the ‘tiger-bag’ and ‘insect-flower’ characters.

Rigging and animation of assets in After Effects. The elaborate characters rigged via DUIK while environment foliage rigging using puppet tool.
